The Pre-Commitment Investigator is a Master’s Level Mental Health Clinician who works collaboratively with Options’ Crisis Team, hospital staff, and other treatment professionals, as well as the individuals and their families, to gather information and determine whether to recommend a Civil Commitment. The investigator reviews mental health crisis assessments and interventions to determine continued custody, eligibility for diversion, and the provision of appropriate services. They ensure due process for individuals placed on an emergency mental health hold at the hospital due to safety concerns to self or others. This position ensures the timely processing and filing of court documents. Attends court and testifies as necessary.
This role ensures that the individual’s civil rights are not suspended wrongfully, or for any longer than necessary. They provide care coordination for hospitalized patients and ensure that there is a safe transition plan to the community, or to higher levels of care, upon discharge.
The Mental Health Investigator is a member of a strong clinical team at the Crisis Resolution Center and works with guidance of the Clinical Director, Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and the Quality Assurance Team.
Training, education, and mentorship on the Investigator role are provided.
The Investigator conducts pre-commitment investigations and evaluations according to ORS and OARs while following legal due process protocols and timelines. These duties include writing pre-commitment investigation reports and submitting them to the courts.
This role provides crisis intervention and evaluations, as well as diversion related services, for individuals in crisis or emergent situations at the hospital and at the Crisis Resolution Center.
They coordinate admissions and discharges into appropriate facilities/programs in collaboration with agency and community professional staff, the client, and the client’s family and/or significant others.
They work to ensure each client discharged from the hospital has a transition plan including follow-up appointments. They also help coordinate the attendance and testimonies of witnesses while requesting subpoenas through the DA’s office when needed. The Investigator may testify in court to verify and clarify their report and assessments.
This position monitors individuals on civil commitment and confers with the Court, the individual, all pertinent professionals, community resources, and support systems in meeting the individual’s treatment needs.
The Mental Health Investigator utilizes effective communication skills and collaboration while representing Options in the community. They also share our values and commitment to develop and maintain professional working relationships with multiple community partners.
The candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related behavioral health field. They must also possess sufficient mental health experience to perform the Investigator role with training and guidance. Prior Investigator experience is a plus but not required.
The candidate must demonstrate strong writing and time management skills, as well as have the ability to cultivate positive working relationships with multiple community partners. Computer proficiency is required to use Electronic Health Records.
Must pass state-required background and DMV checks, possess a valid driver's license, have a safe driving record, and be able to complete the hospital credentialing process with assistance from Options’ Credentialing team. Drug testing is required for this position.
