You will be building the emergency services program across the enterprise, leading the efforts to consolidate, centralize, focus on the strategic plan, leading the development of our emergency care model. You will also demonstrate sound clinical judgement in the area of clinical practice and expertise. Must have extensive background in emergency services with a proven track record of building emergency services programs with a broad experience leading multiple locations and faciltiies across the enterprise. This role will report to the SVP Pt Care Svcs/CNO for the enterprise.

The position will reside the Banner Corporate Headquarters on Central and Thomas, in Phoenix Arizona

Job Summary

This position is responsible for articulating and executing a compelling, actionable strategy and vision for emergency services across the system and will inherently provide leadership and subject matter expertise to all emergency department related operations within Banner. This leader will understand Banners operating model, will be a highly skilled strategic thinker, and a collaborator with key stakeholders. This position leads the development and implementation of Banner Healths emergency care model across the system by coordination with leadership at individual facilities. This includes but is not limited to the creation of a strategic plan with the physician leaders, clinical consensus groups, nursing leaders and other stakeholder. Will be the key leader responsible for the subsequent implementation and execution of the work activities to meet the goals and objectives developed within various stakeholder and constituent groups. The incumbent will oversee the operational and quality components of emergency department operations at the system level and monitors financial performance, noting opportunities for improvement. He/she will also ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations and enforce all procedures, policies, and standards to ensure consistent application and effective operations. The Executive Director Clinical Operations will demonstrate sound clinical judgment in the area of clinical practice.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the design, development and implementation of emergency services across the system intended to support Banners operating model by establishing processes and methodologies dedicated to operational effectiveness, clinical effectiveness, personnel management, physician collaboration and support, logistics and fiscal management.
  • In collaboration with the stakeholders is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the Banner system that creates a highly reliable collaborative program that enhances quality, provides education, facilitates discovery, and develops and implements value-added efficiencies. Provides mentoring and coaching support for leadership and staff regarding emergency department operations and regulatory readiness.
  • Monitors system processes whereby all patients achieve effective, efficient and high quality care in the most cost effective manner. Ensures ease of access, clinical effectiveness and standardization in practice across the care continuum.
  • Leads the organizations efforts in establishing evidence-based practices specific to emergency patient management, and oversees clinical care to include performance improvement and emergency care standards to guide clinical operations and to reduce clinical variation
  • Participates with the Presidents, VP, CEOs CNOs, COOs and Service Line leadership in the development and implementation of strategic planning.
  • Ensures compliance with all accreditation and regulatory standards for the appropriate agencies (State, ACS, etc.) by understanding agency standards and planning for accreditation/verification compliance.
  • Via direct or matrix reporting relationships, builds, hires, trains and leads a highly effective clinical and administrative team including clinical policy development and implementation. Provides direct client support related to organization strategy, design and consultation. Fosters a smooth functioning, efficient organization through anticipating problems and the timely and effective resolution of disruptions.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature review, meetings and workshops. Represents the Banner Health at national, regional and local meetings and demonstrates leadership and positive organizational visibility through participation in local, state, and national committees, conferences, and meetings, remaining current with industry standards and anticipated changes.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a strong knowledge of healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a masters degree in nursing. ORA Masters degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is acceptable. Masters level preparation is required, MSN is preferred.

Current active licensure as a registered nurse in the state of employment.

Must possess at least seven years of direct clinical emergency care experience to include ED and/or critical care with a minimum of five years progressive emergency leadership experience as a Emergency Department Manager or Director in a large complex tertiary care hospital. Ability to successfully communicate with different levels of executives, physicians, directors, managers, and staff in multiple departments across the continuum of care. Active membership in a professional organization such as, ENA, AACN, AONE, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in Nursing with additional experience preferred.ANCC certification in Emergency nursing or Nurse Executive leadership is preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
