Position Summary

Provide clinical and administrative medical assistants duties in an outpatient community family health setting in the Englewood and Robbins, IL communities. Use standardized screening tools to collect patient data, triage patients and participate in the examination and treatment of patients under direction of medical providers and supervision of the Practice Administrator. Communicate with clinical providers and staff re: abnormal vital signs and other relevant clinical information. Facilitate patient flow within clinical and waiting areas. Assist patients in preparing for examinations and procedures provide instructions and draping. Carry out physicians/providers orders and document in patients electronic medical record per organizational clinical standards. Assist clinical staff in obtaining medical records and information from outside sources. Communicate with patients regarding provider and nurse instructions and questions. Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas for improving clinical processes and objectives. Provide care for people from all life cycles. Medical Assistant must be properly dressed at all times in accordance to the organization policies and procedures. Medical Assistants must attend Morning/Afternoon Huddles, QA/QI meetings

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Tasks

  • Interview patients, measure vital signs (such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index, and pain lever), and record information in patients’ electronic medical record
  • Use standardized screening tools to collect patient data.
  • Communicate with clinical providers and staff re: abnormal vital signs and other relevant clinical information
  • Facilitate patient flow within clinical and waiting areas
  • Stock and prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients, including arranging clinical instruments and equipment
  • Assist patients with preparing for examination and procedures, including instructions and draping
  • Clean and sterilize instruments
  • Inventory medical supplies and materials
  • Prepare, administer, and maintain records of medications and immunizations.
  • Perform laboratory services, including: phlebotomy, urine dipstick, hemocue, and glucometer testing
  • Assist clinical staff in obtaining medical records and information from outside sources
  • Communicate with patients regarding provider and nurse instructions and questions
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas for improving clinical processes and objectives
  • Contribute to performance evaluations of self and colleagues, and communicate any concerns with supervisor
  • Participate in weekly integrated primary/behavioral care coordination meetings where complex cases and opportunities for improvement are discussed, evaluated, and action plans developed and implemented and tracked for compliance.
  • Participate in morning huddles with all providers and support staff
  • Must be appropriate dressed per Health Center Dress Codes at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS

  • Consistently demonstrates superior customer service skills; ability to communicate with patients in a courteous, professional, cooperative and mature manner.
  • Utilizes BCFWC script prepared for patients when providing information about our health services to ensure uniformity with correct information during communication.
  • First person of contact for all BCFWC clinic and dental patients, check-In patients after arrival, direct patients to appropriate areas for service, and schedule follow-up visits
  • Obtain and review monthly patient rosters from insurance companies that require patients to be scheduled for an appointment with their Provider as directed.
  • Research general patient information in the Electronic Medical Records System and update demographics as needed; ensure patient health insurance information is current and accurate.
  • Conduct courtesy reminder calls of next day appointments to new patients; accurately document call information in the patient telephone log in the EHR system.
  • Provide a weekly summary of all appointments scheduled and all appointments kept.
  • Assist with contacting no show patients; make appropriate notations in EHR and/or send out letters to notify patient if they need to reschedule.
  • Review and identify any scheduling or registration conflicts with Practice Administrator
  • Answers telephone calls in a timely and polite manner, preferably within three rings; takes messages and conveys information to Medical Assistants, Providers/Nurse when medically indicated.
  • Protects/observes patient confidentiality per Policies and Procedures.
  • Must be appropriate dressed per Health Center Dress Codes at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Education: Medical Assistant certification from a college or technical school
Licensure: Certification and/or Registered Medical Assistant required
Experience: Three to six months related experience and/or training. Experience in family community health setting preferred.
Language: English proficiency required and Spanish proficiency preferred (not required)
