The Health Department’s Public Health Bureau is seeking to fill three vacant Community Service Aide IV positions in the Division of Communicable Disease (CD) Prevention and Control’s Tuberculosis (TB) Control Unit. The Community Service Aide IV will function under the supervision of the TB or CD Unit Supervising Public Health Nurse and the general direction of the TB or CD Public Health Nurses.

The Community Service Aide IV will assist in the implementation of nursing plans for clients through providing health education, reinforcing positive health behaviors, observing medication compliance, documenting client interactions, and reporting observations to the Public Health Nurses.

The Community Service Aide IV provides a variety of supporting services including transporting clients to medical appointments, collecting basic health information, preparing charts and forms, interpreting, as well as collecting and transporting biological specimens. Other duties may include coordinating assignments of other Community Services Aides (I, II, and III), purchasing client incentives, and assisting clients with benefit applications.

The eligible list established from this recruitment process may be used to fill the current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis County-wide.

This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at a lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority in accordance with the Flexible Staffing Program and Guidelines.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to set priorities and make decisions
  • Establish and maintain working relationships
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and co-workers
  • Ability to plan work and lead others
  • Work independently with limited supervision

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Apply basic first aid principles
  • Familiarity with basic concepts of supervision
  • Familiarity with over-all clinic operation and support requirement

Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in the use of technology
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Conditions of Employment:

  • Possess a valid Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the employee must be able to provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays and during times of disaster or emergency.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of these positions, the Health Department reserves the right to fingerprint and conduct police background checks of appointees for some positions.

EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

  • Two years of experience performing related work that is substantially similar to the duties performed by a Community Service Aide III.

Special Qualification

Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish required for these positions. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates must complete and receive a passing score on the bilingual oral and written examination prior to employment.
