The Vice President of Nursing provides leadership in setting vision and direction for a patient-centered and evidence-based care delivery in an integrated and team-based context. Reporting to this position are the Clinical Administration, Clinical Operations, Nursing Education, Research, Radiology, and In-patient Nursing Operations. This role reports to the Chief of Staff/ Senior VP Operations, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

  • Demonstrates the SCCA Mission, Vision and Care Commitments in leadership behaviors, practice, and decisions. Creates a culture that fosters teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration throughout the organization
  • Develops and implements strategies and tactics to drive a high level of performance throughout the organization, ensuring integration and collaboration with partner organizations and other sites of care
  • Ensures plans are developed and executed for key performance indicators, goals, and metrics. Including quality, safety, service, financial (Division budget to actual performance), and patient experience performance (survey and timely access)
  • Participates in institutional planning, policy development, priority setting and management decision making, with full operational responsibilities for departments as assigned
  • Promotes and supports the cultivation, dissemination, and integration of local, national, and international trends and best practices for clinical care delivery in comprehensive cancer centers
  • Leadership accountability for the following key performance metrics; engagement, turnover, retention, diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workforce
  • Provides strategic leadership and support to SCCA’s nursing leaders. Develops forums and systems for nursing leadership and staff to collaborate, encourage innovation, transfer knowledge, and recognize best evidence-based nursing practice and research
  • Partners to recruit, develop and retain clinical / nursing skills
  • Represents SCCA Nursing internally and externally
  • Assures compliance with SCCA quality improvement programs, external agencies, and regulatory bodies
  • Accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of Standards of Practice consistent with quality care
  • Accountable for the standardization of and adherence to policies and procedures


Required Minimum Education: Must hold either a master’s degree in Nursing or Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school or a master’s degree in related field. A PhD, DNP or DNsc is preferred as well as experience in developing a culture in clinical care congruent with Magnet standards.

Required Minimum Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Washington under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). National certification in nursing administration or clinical specialty preferred.

Required Minimum Experience: Minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive operational leadership in a Director or Executive Director role.
