Position Title: Senior Laboratory Manager

Position Summary: Determines and provide appropriate laboratory data to Chief Medical Officer, health care providers and supervise lab tech assistants.

Will follow role assignments that are in alignment with the Patient Centered Medical Home Standards, and participate in all Patient Centered Medical Home efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work with health care providers in ordering and interpreting routine lab tests.
  2. Analyze body fluids such as blood, urine and tissue samples to determine appropriateness for testing.
  3. Participates in Quality Improvement activities of the health center.
  4. Applies scientific method in problem solving and assists in the evaluation of new methods and techniques. Assures that quality control criteria are met, and adheres to as established in the laboratory policy and procedure manual.
  5. Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth
  6. Reports to the Chief Medical Officer as appropriate, and performs other related duties as assigned.
  7. Supervises Lab tech assistants, Identify and communicate staff development needs.
  8. Maintains a safe and clean laboratory work environment.
  9. Helps to develop and maintain current laboratory policy and procedure manual and other lab records.
  10. Assists In maintaining adequate laboratory supplies at all clinic sites and participates in cost containment activities.
  11. Communicate with reference laboratories about lab issues.
  12. Proficient with use of electronic health record system.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists staff with phones.
  2. Maintains and promotes customer relations standards.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: BS degree required, MS degree a plus, from Accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program.

Required Licensure and/or Certification: Certification by accredited laboratory organization.

Minimum Experience: 2-5 yrs. in a clinical laboratory setting, previous management experience a plus. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (50% of day). Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate lab equipment is required.

Physical Environment: Possible exposure to infectious agents, unpleasant odors. The use of Universal Precautions is mandatory.

Supervision: Supervises Laboratory Staff.

Other Requirements: Saturday hours, evening hours and/or may be required to work at a different site.
