Primary Care physician provides medical care services directly to patients of the Round Valley Indian Health Center, inc. This position supports the function of the clinics and clinical operations in accordance with the policies and procedures of the RVIHC and regulations of the California medical board. Primary care physician will demonstrate the professional skills and behaviors necessary to promote and to provide comprehensive cost effective and patient-focused integrative primary care for patients of the Round Valley Indian Health Center. The physician will also support additional medical components of healthcare delivery, including clinical protocols, quality improvement and peer review which meet applicable laws governing licensure and certification
Essential Duties
Demonstrate skills to conduct well organized complete history, preform a through physical examination, organize data into logical diagnosis, make plans for study and management, transmit to other individuals the information thus obtained, and administer treatment
Adheres to the approved scope of practice as agreed to on privileging
Demonstrates proficiency in history taking and physical examinations of adults and children. Appropriately interprets historical and physical examination data to arrive at accurate diagnosis
Orders laboratory and radiology studies when necessary to confirm diagnosis, or to rule out other differential diagnoses. Accurately interprets basic diagnostic procedures and lab tests as required for primary care. Accurate review of radiograph noting any apparent abnormalities appropriately documents all findings in the medical record
Accurately identifies and orders appropriate treatments to include medications, dressing and splinting for superficial and musculoskeletal injuries, and utilization of ancillary services. Utilizes pharmacy formulary for pharmacological options. Orders appropriate follow up for patient to assess results of treatment. Appropriately documents all plans and orders in the medical record.
Practices managed care principles. Participates in the purchased referred care utilization discussions when requested. Refers patients when necessary for treatments not available directly from RVIHC; utilizing in-house resources prior to referring patient outside of the RVIHC health care system
Has specific, current knowledge and use of accepted standards of care for chronic common diseases of the diagnosis care, and management of the diabetic patient
Has an awareness and appreciation for the diversity of the Native American cultural values; recognizes how these values affect interactions with Native Americans in the medical setting
Delivers patient care in a manner that is thorough and encourages patient compliance within standard guidelines of patient care. Will average 10-15 patients per full day. Will complete all pharmacy refills daily when at work. Will complete review and sign-off on lab and consult reports daily. Will complete medical records within 72hrs of seeing patient
Will make use of the schedule charting time on a daily basis to review records and plan services for scheduled patients.
Will actively participate in quality improvement and peer review, attending all Quality Assurance and Medical Staff Meetings
Will maintain awareness of health care objectives and specific goals of RVIHC as established by the Medical Director
Qualifications
Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy Degree
Current California Medical License
Current NPI number for Medicare Billing
Current Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate to Prescribe
Board Eligible/Board Certified in a primary care Specialty, (Family Practice, or Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) desirable
Current Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
In good Physical and emotional health to practice in a busy clinical environment as evidenced by requirement work physical
Comply with Personnel and Corporate and HIPPA Compliance policies of Round Valley Indian Health Center
