This posting is for the Ventura County Health Care Agency; vacancy location is Ventura & Santa Paula.
Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks to assist in the operation of the Ventura County Medical Center or Santa Paula Hospital pharmacy.
NEW HIRE/RETENTION/REFERRAL INCENTIVES: Subject to the applicable section of the SEIU 721 MOA 2019-2022, Amendment #6 (Secs. 3801 – 3803):
EDUCATIONAL/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency – Ventura County Medical Center, Santa Paula Hospital, and Oncology Infusion Pharmacy.
Pharmacy Technicians are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, Per Diem Pool, and Extra-Help vacancies within the Health Care Agency. There are currently two (2) Intermittent vacancies.
NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, incumbents may be promoted to the higher level without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Pharmacy Technician I/PDP I
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience comparable to six (6) months experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
Pharmacy Technician II/PDP II
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience comparable to one (1) year experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (all four classifications)
Must possess and maintain a current California Pharmacy Technician Registration/License.
This position may be subject to State Health Officer Orders regarding vaccine verification and/or testing. These requirements are a condition of employment. Depending on assignment and work location(s), successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination and/or booster against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE – qualifying: All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination AT THE TIME OF FILING. The supplemental questionnaire may be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicant's qualifications and acceptability for the position. Failure to complete and submit the questionnaire will result in the application being removed from consideration.
APPLICATION EVALUATION – qualifying: All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the screening and selection process.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates' knowledge of generic drug names, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy procedures, conversions, filing, and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list. Applicants successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A thorough background investigation which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information, and driving record may be required for this position.
