Scope of Position:
The Senior Director of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety will lead, develop, implement, and facilitate health system and hospital clinical quality and patient safety activities to achieve the triple aim and prevent adverse health events (AHE) across the continuum of care. This position will lead and support OSUWMC clinical and quality committees in collaboration with the Chief Patient Safety and Quality Officer. They will provide OSUWMC member health organizations with technical and implementation leadership support, including consultation, patient experience training/education, and assistance with prioritization of quality/safety strategies and actions. Activities will be designed to position OSUWMC as demonstrated national leaders in all aspects of quality and patient safety to include patient experience. The Senior Director of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety is responsible to partner with the CQPS Officer to work with senior leadership in the development and implementation of the vision, strategic direction, process improvement, compliance, safety measures, value-based initiatives, and innovation for the clinical enterprise. The role spans across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient services and clinical enterprise across all of the Wexner Medical Center. The individual directs, leads and oversees all business, educational, research, clinical and administrative operations of the quality, nursing quality, patient safety and patient experience department(s), inpatient hospital services and clinical practice (including ambulatory operations). Responsible for operations and compliance oversight, developing opportunities for streamlining and creating efficiencies and developing long-term plans to accomplish the strategic initiatives of the organization in collaboration with the Chief Clinical Quality and Patient Safety Officer; participates in strategic development and planning activities consistent with the vision, mission and strategic goals of OSUWMC, including the College of Medicine.
Executes enterprise-wide quality improvement strategies, including developing programs to improve the quality of care and services provided to members across all product lines. Utilizes clinical background to ensure adherence to accreditation standards where applicable. Directs clinical quality risk and quality operations review programs. Fosters a culture of quality using innovation, integration, and information to support revenue and membership growth while achieving business goals. Establishes strategic relationships with executive leadership throughout the organization to develop and remove barriers, if needed, to implement program strategies that meet business, regulatory and accreditation requirements. Maintains a working knowledge of legislative changes that may potentially affect quality and care management practices and standards. Champions and leads hospital-based performance Improvement, Quality and Safety initiatives with Chief Patient Safety and Quality Officer, administrators, employees and medical staff members. Ensures that data collection and reporting support hospital and organization-wide quality monitoring efforts. Supports evidence base practice, Magnet, CAUTI, CLABSI, and NDNQI processes. Oversight of the OSUWMC quality, patient safety, and patient experience programs, daily operations of the clinical quality and patient safety department, and promotion of a culture of safety and modeling of high reliability concepts and performance excellence. Responsible for formulating and administering related organizational policies and procedures; manages relationships with key vendors and partners; provides consultation and advice to internal business units, as well as to external stakeholders (employers and providers). Works with senior leadership to coordinate and complete a variety of projects to ensure delivery of value-added products and services and collaborates with internal and external customers to establish superior business processes.
