KHS reasonably expects to pay starting compensation for the BI Data Architect position in the range of $123,566 - 161,334 / Annual

General Purpose:

The Data Architect is responsible for all aspects of the organizations data management strategy and designing of the data infrastructure Kern Health Systems (KHS). This includes data architecture design; implementing and reviewing Enterprise Data Warehouse standards; data modeling; ETL (Extract Translate and Load) design from conception to implementation; data lineage and data cataloging management. The Data Architect will assist in the data management roadmap, design strategies of data management and data infrastructure as well as create, and document data designs, schemas, and data flow diagrams supporting the overall concept of Kern Health Systems Data Governance Program. Strategize, create and develop the data warehouse design, setup, and maintain data sources. Provide project management or participate as the technical decision maker in a project, as it applies to database technology, storage, or warehousing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, responsibility, good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness, and can provide leadership for junior team members using experience in the Agile project management methodology and DevOps principles.
  • Expert level experience with data analytics ecosystem: data integration (ETL), data delivery, data preparation, data security, data processing, data storage, data integrity, data analytics and expertise in testing strategies and tools use to ensure data quality.
  • Lead and perform data modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical) for supported applications (OLTP, ODS, MDM, Data Marts, Data Warehouse) and projects and creates related data-flow diagrams.
  • Advanced knowledge of ANSI SQL (T-SQL preferred) with a complete understanding of Data Vault 2.0 Model Methodology, Architecture, and Modeling leveraging a Microsoft SQL environment for data warehousing.
  • Participate in the implementation of efforts and adoption of the Data Governance tools to support and including proposing data standards, identifying governance workflows ensuring best practices are utilized throughout the development of the Governance structure.
  • Ability to perform impact analysis, capacity planning, data retention, as well as conformance with audits and regulatory mandates.
  • Create and perform systematic investigations of a specific area of data or data operations through technology audits while improving quality, consistency, and reliability in operations through quality assurance.
  • Contribute to the creation of policies and procedures related to the various operational programs and systems for effective processing, security, or related business and technical needs.
  • Support metadata management processes and standards across all of the data domains to ensure data integrity and standardization
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in a Data Architect position for a medium to large size organization with a structured Business Intelligence or like department preferably in healthcare.

Preferred Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field preferred.
  • PMI, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Agile Alliance Scrum Master certification.
  • CDMP or other data management certification/accreditation.

Knowledge of:

  • Ability to see holistic technical situations and the ability influence desired outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor team through ambiguity and able to make technical decisions to accomplish team objectives.
  • Able to lead, manage, conclude, and recommend using data and experience driven decisions.
  • Ability to oversee due diligence and requirement analysis required for roadmap creation, scope, and execution for enhancements and/or product cycle or refresh initiatives.
  • Ability to manage risk through change control and/or escalation protocols if necessary.
  • Ability to scope, define and interpret quantitative analyses of operational problems
  • A customer-centric approach to all internal and external interactions.


Required travel up to 5%. Possession of valid California Driver's License and proof of valid State required auto liability insurance.
