Philip Health Services is an independent, nonprofit healthcare center located midway between Rapid City and Pierre, South Dakota. Our facilities include an 18-bed critical access hospital, emergency department, 2 clinics, physical therapy, assisted living, home health, and 30-bed nursing home (expanding soon to 42 beds). The Occupational Therapist will provide direct patient care and documentation for patients of all ages, birth through geriatric, to enhance physical health and functional abilities. The Occupational Therapist will also carry out other operational duties for the Rehab Services department as indicated and provide physical therapy to outreach sites as indicated.

Essential Job Functions

  • Test and evaluate patients' physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients.
  • Plan and organize a care plan to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness, injury or psychological or developmental problems.
  • Perform and document an initial examination and evaluation to identify problems and determine a OT diagnosis prior to intervention.
  • Select activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within limits of their mental or physical capabilities.
  • Recommend changes in patients' work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities.
  • Design and create, or requisition, special supplies and equipment, such as splints, braces, and computer-aided adaptive equipment.
  • Discharge patient from occupational therapy when maximum potential has been reached, and/ or provide follow-up care or referrals as needed.
  • Establish and educate patient/ caregiver on appropriate Home Exercise Programs (HEP).

Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, from accredited college or university.
  • Occupational Therapist Licensure through South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners
  • Certified and up to date in Basic Life Support
