Occupational Therapist – This 1.0 FTE(full-time) position offers an outstanding opportunity to join our quality Rehab team of dedicated professional. The caseload would be inpatient and/or outpatient which is mostly hand therapy adult patients.

Non-exempt, pay range $41.32-$59.48

This is a split position that includes providing skilled inpatient occupational therapy services approximately 20% of the day and outpatient services approximately 80% of the day. The caseload includes both non-operative and operative orthopedic upper extremity conditions in addition to a variety of neurological diagnoses. Experience in hand therapy is preferred.

Inpatient duties require therapist to assess and treat patient caseload ranging from routine to complex patient problems and situations. Desired candidate will have knowledge and understanding of assistive equipment and experience in recommending a safe discharge plan and follow-up therapy services. The candidate will have the ability to collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission to discharge.

Outpatient duties include interpreting physician referrals and providing services to patients using specialized skills, including ability to evaluate, assess, plan, administer, and provide safe therapy services. This includes progression of treatment goals as well as providing patient and family education. Desired candidate will have knowledge and understanding of upper extremity and hand anatomy/physiology, disorders, injuries, and medical treatments/surgical repairs to develop and implement treatment programs, which include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, custom fabrication of orthoses, and evidence-based utilization of physical agents.

Job Summary

Responsible for the evaluation of patients, determining plan-of-care and goals of treatment, participating in treatment of patients within the scope of Occupational Therapy. Provides oversight to therapy assistants and students in following the plan-of-care and treatment of patients appropriate to the age of the patient served; provides supervision to therapy aides and volunteers. Works as part of a patient care team toward the best outcomes for the patient.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates assigned patients and establishes a treatment plan and goals, using data from a variety of sources, such as patient records, interviews, observation, and team members.
  2. Completes patient treatment according to plan of care and modifies plan to meet patient needs, and updates plan as appropriate.
  3. Completes documentation accurately, timely, according to regulatory and state licensure requirements, and within professional standards.
  4. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as necessary to ensure smooth continuous care of the patients. May act as a liaison with nursing, medical and other therapy staffs to facilitate problem solving and coordination of other services and act as an educational resource.
  5. Mentors and provides oversight to new employees, therapy assistants, and therapy aides. Provides instruction and training to students.
  6. Actively develops and maintains professional and clinical skills. Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services, caregiver orientation and other professional activities. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.
  7. Consistently demonstrates MGH values and provides all patients/customers with an excellent service experience.
  8. Recommends and participates in development of new services and programs, quality improvement and monitoring activities.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree from an Occupational Therapy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  1. Current Occupation Therapist license in the State of Washington
  2. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  3. Experience in hand therapy in clinical fieldwork or clinical setting
  4. Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) highly preferred.
