The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is hiring!
Position: Chief, Pharmacy Benefits Division

The salary range for this position is $11,778 to $14,032 per month.
$15,735 - $17,017 per month for a licensed pharmacist.

DHCS’ purpose is to provide equitable access to quality health care leading to a healthy California for all. DHCS administers Medi-Cal—California’s Medicaid program—that provides comprehensive health care services at no or low cost for eligible individuals.

This position is eligible for telework from anywhere within California. The selected candidate must reside in California, will be assigned to a DHCS office closest to their residence, and will be required to report to their assigned DHCS office and other locations as needed.

As a State of California/DHCS team member, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and will be part of an organization that strives to be an employer of choice. Reimbursement for relocation expenses may be available for the selected candidate.

The Chief, Pharmacy Benefits Division, will:

  • Oversee the administration of the Medi-Cal Pharmacy and Vision Benefit programs, and lead the development of pharmacy, vision care, and medical supply benefits.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team, with internal and external partners, to deliver pharmacy benefits to nearly 15 million Medi-Cal members—more than one-third of Californians.
  • Provide policy direction for Medi-Cal Rx, the program that provides prescription drug coverage and related services to individuals enrolled in Medi-Cal, and responsible for invoicing and collecting federal and state supplemental drug rebates.

How to Apply:

  • Review the entire job advertisement to ensure you meet the professional requirements and qualifications. Possession of a valid pharmacist license is highly desired but is not required.
  • Submit a complete application packet via CalCareers that includes your State Application (STD 678), Supplemental Application Items, and Resume (optional) by February 7, 2025.
  • The application packet serves as a civil service exam. You will receive your exam results based on your application packet. Interviews will be held with the most qualified applicants.
