Individual health care practitioners applying for the grant must hold a current license, operate in California, and provide similar services.

Funding Background

In a significant move to uphold reproductive rights following the revocation of Roe v. Wade, the State of California dedicated $20 million in its 2022-23 budget to enhancing the safety and security of health care facilities offering abortion and reproductive health services.

Managed by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) on behalf of the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), this initiative introduces the Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security (PDIS) grant program, aimed at safeguarding these service providers from potential acts of violence and vandalism.

After successfully distributing $8.2 million to 21 health care providers in its initial phase, HCAI and Cal OES are now launching a second Request for Proposal (RFP) cycle.

Grants will support enhancements in both physical and digital security measures, ensuring a safer environment for both providers and recipients of abortion care and reproductive health services.
