Job Summary
Supervises Respiratory Therapy Personnel and activities to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of care and compliance with all applicable standards. Prepares for and performs therapy treatments and procedures while ensuring quality control in all areas of the Respiratory Therapy Department. Responsible for managing hospital resources appropriately, complying with hospital policies and programs, complying with all state and federal compliance and HIPAA requirements.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- *Leads the development, implementation, ongoing assessment and improvement of Respiratory Therapy programs, patient-care protocols, standards of care, policies and procedures. Monitors outcomes; identifies opportunities/gaps and initiates appropriate enhancements and/or corrections. Disseminates new or revised policies, procedures and initiatives.
- *Manages and evaluates the clinical operations, programs and resources to assure safe and appropriate delivery of care.
- *Assesses and interprets evaluations of test results, determines respiratory therapy treatment plans, and administers medically prescribed respiratory therapy in consultation with providers.
- *Conducts pulmonary function tests including, but not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, advanced airway management, arterial puncture, and mechanical ventilation of adult/geriatric patients.
- *Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress and recommending adjustments and modifications.
- *Participates in discharge planning by contributing to interdisciplinary patient care conferences. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge.
- *Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
- *Maintains staffing by recruiting, selecting orienting and training employees.
- *Develops team by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising performance.
- *Participates in the development of and implementation of new clinical systems, programs, and policies to enhance existing services and raise the standard of care for the patient population served.
- *Assists with coordination of workflows within the department and across interdisciplinary care team.
- *Ensures all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards procedures, and applicable regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
- *Participates in annual budget process, reviews revenues and expenses, complete Departmental Operating Reports (DOR) monthly.
- Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy
- Associates degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two (2) years of clinical leadership experience preferred.
- Three (3) years of acute care respiratory experience.
- Emergency, Inpatient and Outpatient experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
Current and unrestricted Washington State Respiratory Therapy License.
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required.
Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with providers, other health care professionals, caregivers, patients and community members. Strong leadership, facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills.
- Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.
- Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently performing a wide variety of assignments that require the use of independent judgment, systems-thinking, problem-solving, organization, and prioritization skills.
