The Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM), a managed care health plan, seeks a full time Health Services Support Data Analyst. Under the supervision of the Director of Health Services Analytics, perform all administrative and operational functions as well as general data and analytics support to the Health Services Analytics unit. Responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of existing reports and dashboards, documentation of report specifications, maintenance of data dictionaries and the HS reports inventory.

The essential duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Ongoing maintenance of HS reports and dashboards, data dictionaries and documented business rules
  • Monitor the production cycle of standard HS reports and ensure continuity of HS operational oversight
  • Create and maintain a department dashboard that tracks and summarizes quality initiatives and key performance metrics.
  • Perform data quality checks on data files and written materials to identify data limitations and data gaps
  • Track and monitor ServiceDeskPlus (SDP) requests for data in collaboration with the Director of Health Services Analytics in order to mitigate potential duplication
  • Ensure proper file maintenance and maintain version control on business specification documents
  • Perform routine quantitative analysis (including data reconciliation, comparative analysis and rate review in order to identify process improvement opportunities), present findings and make recommendations
  • Assist with data visualization and preparation of meeting materials in collaboration with the Director of Health Services Analytics
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for data integration, validation, reports request, data quality checks and other daily operational responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support the development of a data quality and assurance process in collaboration with other departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business or related field. One (1) to two (2) years data and/or statistical analysis experience with experience in health care data reporting.

Knowledge of:

Personal computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Claims based healthcare data and HEDIS, Medicare STARs, CMS Core Set measures preferred. Familiarity with healthcare, managed care terminology, Medi-Cal or Medicare Advantage preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting Compensation Range: - Depending on Experience

Benefits Information: Excellent benefits package offered, including HPSM paid premiums for employee’s Medical, Dental and Vision coverage. Employee pays a small portion of the dependent premiums (5%) for medical and dental benefits. Additional HPSM benefits include fully paid life, AD&D, and LTD insurance; retirement plan (HPSM contributes equivalent of 10% of annual compensation); holiday and vacation pay; tuition reimbursement plan; onsite fitness center and more.
