POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for leading a team of RNs and LPNs who serve in our clinics. This person will be responsible for creating and maintaining a cohesive nursing team focused on the care of the patients who present themselves to the clinic with or without appointments and providing counseling and patient teaching either in person or on the telephone. The ultimate goal is the restoration of the patient to their optimal health statue and to give them the awareness to practice safe, sound health habits. The nursing team will support the patient care efforts of Valley View Health Center’s providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing.

Licensure/Certification: Valid Washington State registration/license as a Registered Nurse.

Experience: Previous experience in leadership and nursing in the outpatient clinic setting preferred.

Equipment/Skills: Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. Uses own judgment in ascertaining acuity of patients’ problems and recommends immediate or later intervention. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Physical demands: Ability to physically perform the functions of the job, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, and reaching with or without reasonable accommodation. This position requires that most time is spent standing or walking over long periods.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves Valley View Health Center as Nursing Department leader. Provides day-to-day leadership to center’s nursing staff, ensuring their compliance with department’s goals and initiatives.
  2. Creates workflows and standards for nursing staff to ensure appropriate training and supervision of nursing functions such as direct patient care, triage, care coordination, population health, and patient education tasks.
  3. Provides assistance to the Chief Operations Officer and Clinical Directors with regards to Quality. Standards:
    1. Evaluates appointment compliance and makes recommendations for modifications to scheduling guidelines.
    2. Supports and provides direction to clinic staff to ensure that quality metrics are achieved.
    3. Assists with managing patient grievances and incident reports.
    4. Communicates with Clinical Director/Assistant Clinical Director on provider issues, including quality metrics.
  4. Actively participates in the following committees:
    1. Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement
    2. Clinical Quality Improvement Committee
    3. Midlevel Manager/Management Team Meetings
    4. Operations Team Meetings
    5. Leads Clinic Nursing Group Meetings
  5. Supports the development and enforcement of Valley View Health Center’s policies, protocols, procedures, and guidelines. Serves as a subject matter expert in RN, LPN, and MA scope of practice.
  6. Ensures confidentiality of all clients/patients information per Valley View Health Center policy and HIPAA guidelines.
  7. Respects and works well with team members.
  8. Provides coverage for clinic nurses as needed. Standards:
    1. Provides patient triage and case management following VVHC’s policies and procedures.
    2. Assists medical providers with procedures, treatments and medications, injections, and scheduling referrals.
    3. Collects critical information from available sources (i.e., hospital records, medication lists, other clinical records, lab results, etc.) and makes information available to the provider.
    4. Administers routine immunizations, skin tests, medications, testosterone, etc. as needed.
    5. Assists the providers with coordination of health care needs of patients by assisting them in making future appointments and in making appointments for specialty clinics and following up for compliance.
    6. Manages the Coumadin therapy and reports the INR level to the provider, relays any dosage changes to the patient, and updates Anticoagulation template accordingly.
    7. Processes medication refills as needed.
  9. Provides leadership, direction, and acts as a resource for staff. Standards:
    1. Assures Medical Assistant (MA) is knowledgeable and competent in VVHC policies, standards, and procedures.
    2. Must be proficient in all MA daily functions and job duties.
    3. Fills in for Medical Assistant staff as needed.
  10. Represents Valley View Health Center in community sponsored events, civic organizations, educational activities, and professional associations.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned. Standards:
    1. Follows guidelines established at time of assignment.
    2. Accepts assignments willingly.
    3. Prioritizes workload to ensure timely completion of assignment.
    4. Asks appropriate clarifying questions relative to scope of assignment.
