Infection Control Nurse

FLSA Status: Exempt
Date Approved: January 1, 2020
Salary Range: $33.98 - $46.36 per hour (based on qualifications) - Annual ($70,678 - $96,429)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of SPRHC.
  • Gathers and analyzes infection data, facts and trends.
  • Provides training and education to other medical professionals and visitors on prevention techniques.
  • Develop plans to prevent patients from spreading dieses through the facility or patients.
  • Serves as the leader of the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Reviews and reinforces the implementation of infection control practices as provided in various guidelines for the operation of healthcare facility including, but not limited to, Centers for Disease Control, Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, etc.
  • Monitors and develops plans to bring rates of infection down within the facility.
  • Actively seeks to maintain open communication with residents, resident families, allied personnel, physician and community members.
  • Actively seeks to assure resident confidentiality, rights and privacy by upholding HIPAA regulations and other governing rules associated with the facility.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Perform other functions as required to fulfill the expectations of the Infection Control Nurse.

Minimum Required Education/Experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited learning institution. BSN preferred. Minimum of three years work experience in direct nursing care is required. At least one year of prior work experience in a supervisory/lead nurse role is required.

Pre-Employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and understanding of infection control role in a healthcare facility.
  • Knowledge of proper chemical disinfection and sterilization practices.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment including computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond to opportunities for improvement through continual learning, changes in approach based on situation and professional practice behavior.
  • Ability to instruct and educate on infection control practices.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public, other agencies, employees and administration.

Note: An acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain annual flu vaccination and any job-specific immunizations. Required to submit to a two-step PPD test.

Licenses or Certificates: Current Colorado driver’s license. Valid state license as an RN. Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification. Must have certification or obtain APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) within one year of assignment to role.

Unusual Demands: Work is subject to recurring and inflexible deadlines and frequent interruptions.
