A Licensed Vocational Nurse provides clinical nursing services to Napa County community members including administering tests, dispensing medications, giving injections; and other related work as required.
It may be preferred that some vacancies are filled with candidates who are bilingual Spanish, based on the needs of the Public Health division. Will work a Monday - Friday schedule, possibly 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The current vacancy is an Extra Help position in the Public Health Division of the Health and Human Services Agency. Extra help assignments are non-benefited and maybe used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week ( up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year)
The Recruitment Process:

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Reads charts and other records to note condition of patients and treatments, medications, and procedures ordered by physicians; administers simple prescribed treatments and medications including injections; gives medications orally and watches for contraindications; maintains sterile technique; takes patient's temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; tests urine for sugar acetone and albumen (using clini test); enters findings, as well as treatments and medications administered, in patient's charts; observes conditions of patients and reports unusual occurrences or serious conditions to supervisors; calls superiors in an emergency.
Prepares monthly emergency kit inventory; helps prepare and pack for community clinics; maintains inventory for medical supplies; monitors storage and temperature of vaccine, documents vaccine usage using ELR systems (CAIR); assist Immunization (IZ) coordinator with vaccine inventory; Participate in meetings and conferences; coordinate, assist, and support community flu planning and clinic; clean the lab regularly, keep the lab organized, test eye wash station regularly.
Vocational nursing, including hospital routine and procedures;
First aid, sterile technique, medications, treatments, and bedside care of the ill;
Medical terminology; use and care of nursing equipment and supplies.
Competently apply licensed vocational nursing principles and techniques;
Administer medications and injections;
Assist in the training and supervision of lower level nursing personnel.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. Required minimum qualifications:
None required. Experience in acute or outpatient settings is highly desired.
Possession of a Vocational Nurse license will be accepted as proof of sufficient education for the class.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of California.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
