Clinic Summary –

Proliance Pacific Rim Orthopaedic Surgeons is a locally owned and operated orthopaedic office that has been established in Bellingham since 1968. We provide comprehensive orthopaedic patient care for bone and joint conditions, helping people of all ages get healthy and stay that way.

Position Summary -

We are a fast-paced orthopedic clinic looking for an experienced Physician Assistant who will partner with physicians and physician assistants to provide direct patient care in our after-hours clinic/orthopaedic urgent care, as well as assist in the OR.

  • Superior patient care and customer service skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills; demonstrates patience, composure and cooperation; team player with a great attitude.
  • Understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Experience and be proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quick learner, flexible and adaptable to different working styles, and must have the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Problem solving skills.

Candidates must be available to work in our afterhours clinic which will be Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct ambulatory patient care: performs patient examinations to obtain information about their physical condition; collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals; order diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, NCG, EMG, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
  • Visit and observe patients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician.
  • Assists physicians during surgery or complicated medical procedures; performs minor surgical or medical procedures.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, suturing and wound care, and infection management.
  • Accurately and timely document patient information into an electronic medical record.
  • Coordinate and instruct activities of clinical assistants.

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Physician Assistant Degree
  • At least 2 years’ experience working as a Physician Assistant in orthopedics
  • Certification by governing professional association/organization
  • Licensure or eligible for licensing as a Physician Assistant in the State of Washington
  • Ability for hospital credentialing and privileges
  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer
  • Intermediate word processing skills required
  • High competency in verbal communication with patients

  • Job requires frequent walking to and from exam rooms
  • May include pushing wheelchairs or assisting patients with limited mobility; assisting patients in undressing and dressing; assisting into and out of chairs and/or wheelchairs; onto and off of exam room tables, etc.
  • Some bending, stretching and reaching required.
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Sometimes requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
