Scope of Position

The Director of Business Operations works with all Health Plan leaders to ensure achievement of efficient and effective activities especially those that span all functional areas. The Director of Business Operations collaborates with other Directors to develop department goals, strategies and resource allocation including but not limited to the design, execution, and evaluation of operations, execution of growth strategy, projects and HIPAA/compliance programs ensuring smooth execution and goal attainment. Operational impact spans scope of OSUHP which has oversight and administration of benefits and associated clinical services for almost 70,000 member lives represented by OSU faculty, staff, and their dependents representing a spend of over $400 million and the 150,000 lives utilizing the Health Plan provider network. Director of Business Operations responsible for budget of $3 million, with indirect input to overall Health Plan budget of $13 million.

Position Summary

The Director of Business Operations is responsible for operations and compliance oversight of the OSU Health Plan, developing opportunities for streamlining and creating efficiencies and developing long-term plans to accomplish the strategic initiatives of the organization; participates in strategic development and planning activities consistent with the vision, mission and strategic goals of OSUHP; responsible for implementation of business expansion activities, including profit/loss of new business segment, formulates and administers related organizational policies and procedures, manages relationships with key vendors; provides consultation and advice to internal business units, as well as to external stakeholders (employers and providers); oversees development and implementation plans to ensure timely completion of projects required to meet internal goals and compliance standards with external accreditation or regulatory requirements. Maintains direct oversight of HIPAA/compliance program and business continuity planning for OSUHP. Works with the CEO and senior leadership to coordinate and complete a variety of projects to ensure delivery of value-added products and services and collaborates with internal and external customers to establish superior business processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree or equivalent education/experience with major in Health Services Management & Policy preferred; eight years’ work experience in related field, including leadership; Experience in program planning and administration, project management, large-scale organizational change efforts and budgeting is required; proven ability to coordinate multiple projects desired. Experience managing teams and external vendors. Possesses excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as negotiation skills with businesses; experience in health plan or health insurance preferred; proficient in public presentation; proficient in business case writing; demonstrates strong leadership traits. Strong collaboration and communication skills are a requirement.
