Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages daily nursing operations at all sites with the help of LVN Supervisor and other on-site staff.
  • Ensures the efficiency of patient flow and nursing duties.
  • Oversees and supervises the professional and technical aspects of all Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), Medical Assistants (MAs),Registered Nurses (RNs), and Dispensary Clerks at all sites.
  • Assists HR and Clinic Managers in scheduling nursing staff at all sites to provide quality care to patients.
  • Oversee dispensary operations at all sites to ensure compliance with Board of Pharmacy regulations. Acts as a back-up for the dispensary at all sites.
  • Oversees and coordinates clinic operations of new nursing employees (regular, temporary and externs) to the clinic, signing off on performance of taking vital signs, giving three injections, etc., and annual competencies.
  • Oversees ongoing nursing education and the Nurse Educator to ensure new and continuing policies and procedures are understood and adhered to.
  • Promotes good working relationships with other external clinics, Health Department and community agencies.
  • Ensures appropriate orientation, training and monitoring of nursing staff, to keep them aware of changes in protocols and practices.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance of all nursing activities (i.e. logs) at SMTF and oversees compliance at all sites by working collaboratively with Clinic Managers.
  • Develops and updates nursing policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements standards of care in collaboration with CMO and COO for nursing services, objectives, policies, and procedures specific for clinic operations relating to nursing practice, in accordance with all granting, licensing and Title XXII regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversees vaccines and medications orders at all sites in collaboration with Chief Medical Officer.
  • Oversees laboratory compliance at all clinic sites in collaboration with Clinic Managers and Compliance Coordinator.
  • Oversees Quality Improvement (QI) and Clinical site audits from all regulatory agencies in collaboration with Clinic Managers, CMO, COO, and Compliance Coordinator.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints related to nursing services and acts as a Patient Advocate and will review and help resolve all, with regard to patient care.
  • Initiates and coordinates in-service programs to assure that all nursing personnel at all sites are conversant with programs, systems, and tools necessary to perform job duties.
  • Oversees maintenance of medical equipment logs and warrantees, purchase and maintenance of medical equipment, and annual calibration of all medical equipment by TCC vendors.
  • Assists with Clinic Managers at all sites in the preparation Audits by various agencies.
  • Maintains the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) manual and files updates and reports that are required by LBMMC and distribute copies to all sites in conjunction with Compliance Coordinator.
  • Evaluate along with Nurse Educator minimum competency of MAs in the following areas annually at Main and in collaboration with Clinic Managers (or designee) at all sites:
  • Vital Signs
  • Injection technique
  • Vaccine dosages
  • Audiometry
  • Snellen
  • Obtaining specimens such as urine and blood
  • Operation of Hemocue, blood sugar analyzer, Biotek 500 Urine analyzer, pulmoaides, pulsoxemeters, blood pressure monitors, and thermometers, both oral and tympanic
  • Completion of CHDP forms by age
  • Coordinates and participates monthly nursing management meetings (i.e. CQI, Dispensary).
  • Maintain EPIC proficiency and how it relates to back-office flow.
  • Performs personnel management functions such as annual performance reviews, establishing personnel qualification requirements (job descriptions) and approving timekeeping for all licensed at SMTF.
  • Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relationships with staff, volunteers and the public, portraying the mission and values of TCC Family Health.
  • Ensures delivery of quality patient care.
  • Oversee and evaluate MA externs and LVN and RN rotations as determined by TCC.
  • Attends outside meetings to network with colleagues and gain knowledge to improve the clinical practice at the organization such as CCALAC roundtable and CCALAC pharmacy work group.
  • Attends all staff QA meetings and credentialing.
  • Participates in safety committee and disaster preparedness.
  • Supervises RNs for collaboration with Clinic Managers.
  • And all other duties as assigned and special projects.

Education, Experience Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing with at least 5 years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current RN license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience working with children and adults within a clinic or ambulatory care setting (preferred).
  • Two years supervisory experience.
  • Committed to serving the uninsured and underserved population.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible individual who is capable of decision making and problem solving; well informed in the principles of management.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
