Director of the STI Prevention Center


The Director of the STI Prevention Center at Essential Access Health is responsible for providing leadership of statewide and county STI prevention programs and supervises all related teams. The Director of the STI Prevention Center provides program and fiscal oversight, and participates in business development and divisional and planning. The Director of the STI Prevention Center works in collaboration with other departments on crossorganizational initiatives and strategic planning.

  • Oversee Essential Access Health’s STI Prevention Center throughout California. Direct program development, implementation and evaluation, data collection and utilization, clinical updates and research application, training and special projects activities.
  • Develop and oversee budgets for all STI Prevention Programs based on project goals and objectives; forecast project needs and track budget expenditures (together with respective project managers).
  • Hire and manage program-related staff, interns and consultants.
  • Liaison between Title X family planning agencies, STI Prevention Program staff, California STI Control Branch and other statewide STI prevention stakeholders.
  • Lead organizational strategic plan to guide Essential Access Health’s STI Prevention Programs.
  • Oversee STI-related training and technical assistance to Essential Access staff and to external partner agencies/ organizations statewide.
  • Present papers/publications, data analysis to local, state and national partners, and Essential Access Health Board as needed.
  • Collaborate with Essential Access Health’s Public Affairs team to direct Essential Access Health’s digital consumer-awareness projects and teen-friendly initiatives.
  • Develop and advance Essential Access Health’s pro-active policy agenda to improve STI outcomes statewide.
  • Direct development and revision of evaluation tools, monitoring procedures, medical guidelines and other special projects as needed.
  • Set guidelines for Essential Access Health’s Title X staff to ensure that appropriate STI screening and treatment practices are evaluated during site visits.
  • Lead initiatives to seek and secure additional departmental funding to support STI prevention in alignment with Essential Access Health’s mission.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

  • Master’s Degree in public health, public administration or nursing or equivalent experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of epidemiology and project administration, medical research
  • Knowledge of STIs, family planning and general reproductive health
  • Experience in program development, management, implementation and evaluation
  • Experience developing and tracking budgets
  • Experience in data analysis, report writing, fund development and oral presentations.
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting
  • Excellent organizational skills and adept at working on multiple projects
  • Ability to develop effective administrative procedures


A current California Driver’s License, current registration and current automobile insurance coverage is required if you drive on company business.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
