The Tanana Chiefs Conference provides a wide array of services in multiple facilities with our main location being the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center--an award winning cultural super clinic located in Fairbanks--Interior Alaska's urban hub. The Fairbanks based clinic is itself a hub that serves the larger mission of supporting health and wellness to Indian Health Service beneficiaries including an Ambulatory Surgery Center, Ophthalmology, Audiology, Urgent Care, Hematology/Oncology Services, Dental Clinic, Imaging and a host of other services.

Job incumbent serves as the lead provider for the Urgent Care team. Incumbent provides medical care at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center (CAIHC) in Urgent Care Department. Job incumbent serves as the team leader and the lead provider for the urgent care team at Tanana Chiefs Conference Health Services.

Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Specialty Services Medical Director, job incumbent will perform the following representative duties:

  1. Provide daily direction and communication to care team to ensure that patient care is delivered in a timely, efficient, and high quality manner. The care team consists of multiple components and extends throughout the TCC service area to include Fairbanks-based team members, sub-regional team members, and associated village clinics. Work closely with the sub-regional team lead provider to ensure close collaboration and patient care.
  2. Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures, and implement methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
  3. Work with Health Services Administration and the Clinical Staff Office to manage team schedules. Ensure team member are adhering to the guidelines around scheduling CME, PTO, village travel and other scheduling considerations.
  4. Conduct regular team meetings to communicate updates and process changes, as well as discuss and resolve issues. In collaboration with Lead RN, keep a record and minutes for meetings to be submitted to the Specialty Services Medical Director.
  5. Function as the first point of escalation for patient care concerns.
  6. Facilitate initiatives to improve access to services and customer service.
  7. Engage team in effective change management with new operations as required.
  8. Provide strong leadership by building coalitions, engaging cross functional teams, and promote staff to work at their highest level and potential.
  9. Function as a medical provider within the Urgent Care clinic.
  10. Assists with hiring of clinical staff, performs professional evaluations of staff under their supervision.
  11. Works closely with the Specialty Services Medical Director, peer Team Leads, Primary Care Team and Lead RN to advance quality outcomes for patients, Quality Improvement projects and goals and professional development of medical staff.
  12. Assists the Specialty Services Medical Director and CHAP Program Director and Sub-regional Team Lead provider to continually meet accreditation and regulatory standards of clinic and other clinics in the sub-region as needed.
  13. Supervises all providers on care team. Conducts annual and intermittent evaluations on team providers.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a licensed medical provider (PA-C, NP, CNM, MD, DO)
  2. Must be able to meet criteria for appointment to the medical staff and be in good standing.
  3. Must hold a valid license to practice in State of Alaska
  4. Three years minimum primary care experience, 5 years preferred. Additional experience in cross cultural health care strongly preferred.
  5. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to work in a busy, high volume walk-in clinic with proven skills in patient triage and workload prioritization.
  2. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Experience and history handling stress and working under pressure.

Supervision: This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands: Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds in support of equipment and supplies. Position requires recurring bending, stooping, kneeling, reading, handling, speaking, hearing, and seeing. Position may require extended periods of standing. Incumbent may periodically lift patients, with or without assistance, in the process of providing medical assessment of patient conditions.

Summary: Works in a busy Fairbanks based clinic with multiple care teams and a variety of clinical services and occasional in isolated clinic environments that will expose the incumbent to a variety of clinical situations that they will need to be able to address on an ongoing basis.
