The Assistant Medical Director D/CF (AMD) provides oversight of medical services in collaboration with the Medical Director D/CF and provides onsite supervision to Providers assigned. The AMD is responsible for a minimum of 30% direct services to patients with awareness of the specific needs of the population being served.
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Management Expectations
Provide on-site oversight and supervision of Nurse Practitioners and
Physicians (Providers) assigned.
Work directly with assigned Providers to educate them on Correctional
health processes and determine best course of action to provide and
improve overall quality of care.
Collaborate with ACH Administration, including Case Management to
support patient access to specialty care providers, non-County
Providers, and non-medical facilities.
Collaborate with nursing to prioritize daily Provider Sick Call
appointments for patients based on level of acuity.
Monitor Chronic Care Program protocols, including Medicated Assistant
Treatment (MAT).
Develop, implement, and monitor MAT programming.
Create and facilitate workgroups and committees designed to improve
patient care.
Collaborate with the Medical Director to develop, update, or replace
medical County policies.
Manage Provider Sick Call appointments and Provider visits.
Communicate with Medical Director to make certain the goals and
objectives of the program are met – including consistent processes
between the Main Jail and RCCC.
Develop and monitor projects assigned by the Medical Director and
Health Services Administrator
Supervisory Expectations
Supervise Provider staff assigned.
Evaluate assigned Provider staff’s quality of work by completing reviews
of provider chart notes and treatment plans.
Assess, train and monitor new Provider staff assigned.
Meet with provider staff to address issues in
performance and/or attendance.
Development Expectations
Maintain an active professional license and certifications.
Attend classes or workshops to improve medical skills.
General Expectations
Exhibit excellent customer service, focused on patient care.
Create a cooperative working environment among peers and ACH personnel.
Learn and utilize ACH’s EHR, required for documenting patient care.
Be proactive versus reactive.
Use good judgment in decision-making.
Foster a team culture and accept various assignments as needed.
Work cooperatively with Sacramento Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Maintain flexibility and adapt to different situations based on the
correctional working environment.
Adhere to quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection
control standards.
Maintain a safe work environment and report any workplace hazards to
the appropriate authority.
Clinical Expectations
Provide direct care services as necessary and at a minimum of 30% of
the scheduled time per week.
Complete daily Provider Sick Call appointments and Provider visits as
assigned.
Complete daily chart reviews and medication renewals as assigned.
Complete daily discharge medication orders as assigned.
Proactively identify, treat and manage inmates with serious medical
conditions.
Provide quality patient care and treatment that meets community care
standards.
Perform daily face-to-face patient visits and complete medical
documentation and patient treatment plans in the ACH Electronic Health
Record (EHR) system.
Perform patient initial chronic disease assessments and develop
treatment plans, including prescribed follow-up care.
Ensure patient access to care.
Collaborate on patient care with ACH Mental Health for those with
comorbid mental health and medical conditions.

The County of Sacramento offers an excellent compensation and benefits program. The salary range for this position is $318,587.04 – $351,243.36 annually plus an additional 3.35% management incentive for a combined total of $329,259.71 - $363,010.01.
