The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is currently searching for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to serve Western State Hospital (WSH). As the CMO you are responsible for assuring high quality psychiatric and medical services to over 850 adults with serious mental illness in one of the nation's largest inpatient psychiatric state hospitals.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you are a key constituent on the hospital's Executive Leadership Team. As the CMO, you will oversee patient treatment for a wide variety of patient populations including adult, forensic, geriatric, and individuals with developmental disabilities. You are working closely with Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation, and Medical Staff to ensure that patients receive needed services and successfully reintegrate into their communities following discharge.

Former CMOs who left a legacy consistently brought creativity, innovation, and vision to the table. They were able to handle routine treatment issues and emergent patient needs. Further, they listened well and sought out every opportunity to collaborate with hospital staff - from technicians to physicians – and with others in the mental health community, to ensure patients received the absolute best care.

The Chief Medical Officer collaborates with a cadre of approximately 76 psychiatrists and physicians, 44 pharmacy staff, and 32 medical services staff from around the world, 11 of them are direct reports. Many of these have long tenure and a strong commitment to the hospital. Following patients on their road to recovery from start to finish, the CMO is involved in both complex as well as routine cases.
