The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a member of senior administration and is responsible for the overall management of nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research at the assigned Mayo Clinic site/region. This individual is accountable for developing, implementing and evaluating the organization's plan for providing nursing care to patients and ensures the organization's nursing plan is aligned with the institution's vision and strategic plan. The CNO works collaboratively with physician and administration leadership to manage resources including budgets and human capital and participates in assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting Mayo core values, communication ideas and coaching and mentoring others. This position is accountable for measuring, assessing, and improving patient outcomes achieved through the development and implementation of nursing standards of clinical practice and clinical care. This individual is responsible to bring an institutional/system perspective to daily operations. The CNO provides leadership and mentorship in the development of Mayo administrators, professionals and leaders.

Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer, Mayo Clinic for Nursing practice and site/regional administration for day-to-day operations. Works collaboratively with site/regions Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Executive Officer, physician leaders and other senior leadership colleagues. Directly supervises nurse administrators and others as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program and a Master's Degree in Nursing, business, or health-related field. Minimum of five years' experience in nursing administration with line management responsibility.

Previous experience in Nursing clinical practice role. Doctoral Degree - DNP or PhD in Nursing preferred. Demonstrates leadership attributes of people skills, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional intelligence. Worked in more than one clinical setting. Demonstrated ability to establish a vision, set strategy, execute and deliver results. Demonstrated external exposure (through clinical experience, Board, professional organization). Demonstrated performance in complex situations with multi-dimensional factors. Demonstrated consistent high level of performance, including stretch roles. Experience in leading Nursing Department initiatives.

Licensure/Certification Required:

Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing. This RN job may require a RN license in multiple states.
